New Poultry Industry Safety Recognition Program Announced
To recognize those facilities that have achieved a high level of safety performance through the implementation of innovative and effective safety and health programs, the Joint Poultry Industry Safety and Health Council announces the first annual safety award program. The program is open to National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association members with poultry processing plants, hatcheries, feed mills or rendering facilities that have injury and illness rates below the industry average for three consecutive years.

Feds Ban Texting While Driving Commercial Motor Vehicle
A federal ban, now in effect, prohibits texting while driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). The ban clearly defines texting, and provides additional information regarding other electron devices. Drivers being caught texting may be subject to civil or criminal penalties of up to $2750.

COBRA Subsidy Extension now in Draft Jobs Bill
Top Senate Democrats are working on a draft jobs bill that would extend and expand Federal COBRA health insurance premium subsidies. Currently employees involuntarily terminated from Sept. 1, 2008, through Feb. 28, 2010 are eligible for a 15-month premium subsidy . The draft bill would extend the benefits another three months so employees laid off in March, April and May of this year would also be eligible for the subsidy.
