IPE Nutrient Management Plan Workshop for Poultry Growers, Environmental Managers and Field Service representatives

Industry and the regulatory community are still at odds over how the new CAFO rules address National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)permitting requirements. On Thursday, January 28th in Room A-407 during IPE Steve Schwalb of Perdue Farms will present Perdue’s newly implemented program to assist poultry producers with self evaluations and how to implement best management practices programs. Dr. Phil Hess from Purdue University will discuss a new internet tool to prepare Nutrient Management Plans and representatives from the USDA natural Resources Conservation Service will discuss on farm conservation practices. Plan to attend this informative program. Attendance is free with your registration to IPE.

Animal Ag Industry Under Attack - USPOULTRY Education Program @IPE

The animal agriculture industry is under attack as animal rights activists continue to mount campaigns designed to sway public opinion and distort the industry's long history of sound animal welfare practices, which promote good health and production, prevent disease and are consistent with accepted humane treatment guidelines. Attend USPOULTRY's Education Program on Thursday, January 28th at 9 AM in Room A-411 in the Georgia World Congress Center during IPE to hear Dr. Wes Jamison and Mr. Blake Hurst, a Missouri farmer and author, discuss the latest efforts of the activists to attack our industry.

NIOSH Lifting Equation and the Poultry Industry

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) lifting equation was last revised in January 1994. Its purpose was to provide ergonomists a uniform method for evaluating manual lifting tasks in the hope of reducing lower back injuries and stimulate research. However, the lifting equation is based on a number of assumptions that do not account for environmental, practical, and procedural factors within a poultry processing plant. Researchers with the Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Agricultural Technology Research Program in conjunction with member companies of the Georgia Poultry Federation have been examining which tasks within a poultry processing plant could relate to lower back pain and injuries.

Risk Managers Under Pressure to Rein in Collateral Costs

Risk Managers are under pressure to reduce collateral costs and limit the use of letters of credit to keep scarce capital available for other corporate needs. Insurers on the other hand continue to aggressively manage the credit risk they take from policyholders. But policyholders do have new options and strategies that can help, even with tight credit markets that have raised risk management collateral costs.

COBRA Premium Reduction Extension Provisions Training

The Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010, extended the COBRA premium reduction eligibility period for two months until February 28, 2010 and increased the maximum period for receiving the subsidy for an additional six months (from nine to 15 months). In the upcoming webcast, the Department of Labor will be joined by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service to discuss the extension and provide assistance in complying with the new requirements, including the model notices and transition period.
