The animal agriculture industry is under attack as animal rights activists continue to mount campaigns designed to sway public opinion and distort the industry's long history of sound animal welfare practices, which promote good health and production, prevent disease and are consistent with accepted humane treatment guidelines. Poultry Industry Comments on Proposed OSHA Rule
On January 8, 2010 the U.S.Poultry & Egg Association, the National Turkey Federation, the National Chicken Council and the Georgia Poultry Federation filed joint comments in response to OHSA's advance notice of proposed rulemaking to regulate combustible dust hazards in the workplace. The comments discussed the need for a workable definition of combustible dusts with respect to the standard and encouraged OSHA to limit the scope of any new standard to those industries that have experienced or have been previously identified as having a higher potential for dust explosions. The industry comments also suggested that the existing federal grain handling standard has been effective and that feed mills and grain elevators should continue to be covered under that standard.
