                      Poultry Production and Value 2024 Summary
					 
					 
					 The combined value of production production from broilers, eggs, turkeys, and the value of sales from chickens in 2024 was $70.2 billion, up 4% from $67.4 billion in 2023. Of the combined total, 65% was from broilers, 30% from eggs, 5% from turkeys and less than 1% from chickens.
The value of broilers produced during 2024 was $45.4 billion, up 6 % from 2023. The total number of broilers produced in 2024 was 9.33 billion, up 1 % from 2023. The total amount of live weight broilers produced in 2024 was 61.1 billion pounds, up 1 % from 2023.
The value of turkeys produced during 2024 was $3.69 billion, down 44 % from the $6.57 billion the previous year. The total number of turkeys raised in 2024 was 200 million, down 8 % from 2023. Turkey production in 2024 totaled 6.58 billion pounds, down 6 % from the 6.99 billion pounds produced in 2023.
The value of sales from chickens (excluding broilers) in 2024 was $29.5 million, down 53 % from $62.6 million a year ago. The number of chickens sold in 2024 totaled 182 million, up slightly from the total sold during the previous year.
Value of all egg production in 2024 was $21.0 billion, up 18 % from $17.9 billion in 2023. Egg production totaled 109 billion eggs, down 1 % from 110 billion eggs produced in 2023.

						 According to the Organic Trade Association's 2025 Organic Market Survey, organic dairy and egg sales rose by 7.7% to $8.5 billion in 2024. Organic egg sales rose 16.1%. This growth is in part due to Avian Influenza that has hit egg producers across the country, causing all egg prices to surge while leaving bare grocery shelves.
According to the latest Census of Agriculture (2022), conducted every five years, U.S. farms and ranches sold $11.21 billion in certified organic commodities, an increase of $1.275 billion or 12.8% from 2019. There were 17,445 certified organic farms, a 5.18% increase over 2019, which accounted for 4.895 million certified acres, a decrease of 11% from 2019. The top sectors and commodities in 2021 were:

 Companies involved in the production and processing of poultry provide 1,814,200 jobs that pay $100.2 billion in wages to families throughout the country, generate over $469.6 billion in annual economic impact, and about $32.9 billion in taxes. The poultry industry in the United States employs as many as 374,063 people across the country and generates an additional 1,440,180 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries. These include jobs in companies supplying goods and services to the industry. These are good jobs paying an average of $55,200 in wages and benefits. And today, every job is important. In fact, in the United States the unemployment rate has reached 5.47 percent. This means that there are 8.6 million people trying to find jobs across the country.
